I'm a long time fan like many of us and I've been playing their albums a hundred thousand times each...but in the end SOME GREAT REWARD & BLACK CELEBRATION are my fav!
I love the "industrial years" above all, SGR, Shake the disease, etc And I'm sad DM is no longer interested in that...The most creative year to me. |
Same here. Not 'Berlin sound anymore',but maybe year 2015 industrial will be back in DM |

| Musically, I have to go for Songs of Faith and Devotion. Not only is the album great, but the b-sides (though there are only two I guess), remixes and live performances are brilliant too. |
I totally agree!
Album: perfect from front to back, I never skip a song on this album (unlike any other DM album)
Singles: I like EVERY possible remix/studio b-side/live b-side generated from this album/era (unlike the package of singles from any other DM LP)
VHS/DVD: excellent stage show and performance (more = more), I don't bother watching ONIP anymore
Live Show: I attended my 1st DM concert in October of 1993, I was just standing there %$@$ myself. In hindsight I am sure glad that I saw DM (with Alan..thank God) at their peak
This whole era has a tremendous sentimental meaning to me too since it was my during my first couple of years being away at University.
Cheers |

| For me it was violator, everybody back then in the late 80s early 90s were walking around with their white jeans and DM concert t shirts, they were the coolest band around, now in Canada anyways you be hard pressed to see anyone walking around in the summer time with a depeche mode t shirt on. |

Violator and SOFAD
I actually remember first hearing them when People Are People came out and I was 5 years old and saw my sister and her friends dancing to it. That song stuck in my head for years until around the time SOFAD came out and a friend I met in school took me to his house one day and played People Are People and I FINALLY knw who the band was that played that song. Been a huge fan ever since. Actually you could say I've been a fan since 1985 if you want to be technical about it lol |

| I became a fan with the Violator album which is probably my favourite album, but quickly the nostalgia of Black Celebration and even A broken Frame lines up "in your memory". I dunno, " sometimes it's hard, it's hard to tell...!!" |

I like their early stuff from construction time again and some great reward but I like devotional very much too
and one of my favourite songs are from black celebration and music from the masses
so I realy can't tell
I think they are still great now with their new album and get better and better |

| Mine are the Violator, SOFAD and PTA. Great songs, great singles, great b-sides and most of all great tours. |

| i first discovered dm when violator came out, so i then went back and discovered their older stuff. while i liked violator--some GREAT songs, not to mention it was so professionally well put together--i think i like black celebration/music for the masses. songs then, esp black celebration, had such a youthful urgency to them. songs since, while still great, have that mature wisdom almost, whereas i like them as a band searching and at odds. i really, really liked black celebration...lol....so beautifully trying to exist in and make sense of a futile world...lol.... |

| My favourite era is the first one (81-85), because it's very pop, i also love the era 86-90, which has a darker sound, but i guess i got tired of listening to that era's hits and now im more into their early stuff. |

As a new person on this forum, I would like to give you my version of my favorite era.
I think that the years 1983 - 1990 is the most interesting. Specially Construction Time Again and Black Celebration are both super albums. Though I also enjoy Playing The Angel, wich in my oppinion is the top highlight in the last 15 years. |
